Guesthouse Steindórsstadir, West Iceland, hotel in Reykholt

Dating back to 1828, this family-run farm in West Iceland offers bright rooms with country-style décor. Facilities include a guest kitchen, TV lounge and terrace with outdoor hot tub.

The guest house was clean and well managed. Our hosts were friendly and the location was exceptionally beautiful. We enjoyed walking around the farm, seeing the sheep, Icelandic horses and sheep dogs. Using the common kitchen was a way to interact with the other guests and find out what was good to see in the area.

The entire experience was amazing! Inga and Siggi were such gracious and helpful hosts from the start. They answered questions before we arrived and were very accessible throughout our stay for when we had additional questions. Inga and Siggi left us a welcome gift which was so thoughtful and greatly appreciated! The home is BEAUTIFUL. It was perfect for the 8 of us - plenty of room. Everything was thought of down to the smallest details. The kitchen was fully stocked with very nice plates, glassware, silverware, kitchen utensils, etc., as well as different olive oils, kinds of vinegar, and salt. The bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, shower gel as well as extras in case you forgot your toothbrush, etc. The beds were comfortable and the black-out curtains worked well since we were visiting in August and the sun really never went away. I couldn't speak more highly of the home or our hosts! My entire family said it was one of the best parts of our trip to Iceland.

There are 2 Reyhkolts in Iceland and this is the more...

There are 2 Reyhkolts in Iceland and this is the more westerly one (the other is on the Golden Circle to the south). We visited Vidgelmir, the lava tube, and it was fabulous! It's cold inside so dress warmly. The guides were all geologists who specialize in this kind of formation and were knowledgeable about both geology and the history of the tube. Krauma geothermal baths and restaurant: the baths were expensive and we didn't go but the restaurant served great food (also expensive as is all food in Iceland).

The room was beautiful and spotlessly clean. It had a loft with an extra bed. The view from the breakfast room was breathtaking. The breakfast buffet was filling. There was oatmeal, cereal, some fruit and veg, bread, cheese, coldcuts, jams, tea, coffee, juice. (I also really appreciated that the hotel began breakfast 1/2 an hour early due to a number of guests (including our family) who had booked early morning tours in the area.)

Location was great, and cabin very functional and comfortable. Jacuzzi was very easy to use and worked very well, as well as everything in the cabin (kitchen, hot water, etc.). Amazing location for a quiet, resourceful stay, which was exactly what we were looking for. You need to rent a car if you're going to stay there, but if you do, it's a great place to stay and explore the western part of Iceland.

Completely relaxing place, perfect after seeing the Cave. At the suggestion of the guy at check in took a pleasant walk down to the river led by the hotel dog. He also told us about Northern Lights that night, which were great! They made an off-the-menu vegan dish for my wife. Beautiful wool items for sale knit by his grandmother.

Hotel was very clean. The staff were great and very efficient. A wide door at the back of our room lead to a large open space on the backside of the hotel where there were some small thermal baths for relaxation. Breakfast had a wide selection. Food at the restaurant was delicious. Would definitely recommend!
