Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything from fascinating history and great architecture to a friendly atmosphere!
Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down Communist rule in Poland, initiating the end of the Cold War era.
Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the city's near-complete destruction during World War II. You can admire the colorful townhouses of the Old Town by boat on the Motlawa River or by strolling down the popular Long Street and Long Market.
While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!
Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com has a variety of accommodations near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city center.
Such a clean and beautiful city. We only stayed and looked at the main old town area plus the shipyards. Spent 2.5 days exploring on foot. Very flat easy walking. St Bridgit’s church is a must see with its incredible amber alter and St Mary’s stained glass and clim to the bell tower top was great too! 400 steps though so not for everyone.

Some lovely architecture and nice beaches at Sopot.
Some lovely architecture and nice beaches at Sopot. Gdynia was very disappointing. Most buildings in the old town are amber jewellery shops, currency exchange, restaurants, or coffee shops (which are nothing special). There isn't much else unless you go to a generic shopping centre. There are places of interest, monuments, museum etc but overall a little disappointing. Not as interesting as Warsaw or Krakow.

Nice old town to visite on a weekend.
Nice old town to visite on a weekend.
We strongly recommend that you also take a fast train to Sopot which is a lovely little sea town with a very large and beautiful bridge on the sea.
Children will probably love to go on a pirate boat trip but do it when it is warm otherwise you will freeze.
The Amber Museum in Gdansk is absolutely beautiful. Dont miss it.
Food was quite ok. There are restaurang everywhere.
People are very friendly.

There is not enough space to say all I want to here.
There is not enough space to say all I want to here. I love Gdansk and everything about it, and if you haven't been there, then WHY ON EARTH NOT?
Go there at once and DON'T just stick to the old town and Dluga street. These are really good, and I love them too (as I do everything). But there is so much more. Day trips galore, great parks, excellent walking, a huge variety of restaurants and cafes, the river, the many miles of wonderful smooth sandy beaches (and the water is NOT always so cold as you might think!)
Gdansk old town for architecture and history.
Gdansk Wrzeszcz for restaurants and cafes.
Gdansk Oliwa for the fabulous Park Oliwskie.
Sopot and Gdynia for additional fun!
Getting around couldn't be easier with trams and buses galore. Using Google Maps to help you, you'll be able to get everywhere.
OMG I totally LOVE THIS PLACE, and every time spent there is full of great things!

The city is very well structured and therefore it's almost impossible to get lost. The architecture is stunning - a mixture of Dutch and German styles gives it a unique look. Walking by the riverside is a beautiful experience, also the beach is not far, about 25 minutes by tram. Many great restaurants offer a wide variety of cuisines to satisfy everyone.

If you hold with the truth that there is no time like the past, then you cannot fail to like it. The Old Town is fascinating. For the first time in a long while, I was time travelling again. Not easy to find a restaurant which is vegetarian-friendly, but worth looking through the windows, first floor elevated or into the basement, at interiors that remind me of the years before WWII. I dined at Liberum, which is competitively priced and comfortable, and then stopped for a pint at a whacky vintage bar called, in English, 'Wardrobe'. I was in transit, so only in Gdansk for one night, but you'd be hard pushed to experience everything exhaustively even if you had a week at your disposal. If you don't go, you won't know!
This was the best place we stayed in Poland.
The room is big, very spacious, clean, well equipped.
The window view leads to the "Romantic Road", big and almost floor window, tall celling, it was absolutely lovely.
The location is right in the center of main town, you can walk everywhere, plenty of eating and drinking places.
The host is very accommodating, allowed us to leave the luggage until later. This was very kind of him.
Absolutely great place to stay. Very nice hotel, nice and friendly staff, delicious breakfasts with plenty of food options to choose from, very good restaurant with decent prices and the location ... 20 seconds walking distance from the Neptune fountain as the hotel is located right in the center of the Old Town.
I'll definitely be back and highly recommend Artus Hotel as the best place to stay in Gdansk!
The room itself was incredibly tidy and spacious. The kitchenette was a nice size and even came fitted with a dishwasher, and plenty pots and pans.
Hotel is in an amazing location, right in the city centre next to the Basilica and so many other great attractions. Our window had a great view of the basilica of St Mary as well as the town hall (museum of Gdańsk).
The room was nice, well lit and spacious. Everything was very clean, including the bathroom. The hotel is only a few steps away from the old town and the main tourist attractions, but at the same time it's located in relatively quiet area (except for church bells in the morning). There's also a small grocery store just around the corner.
Lovely host. It is a good place, located in area of 80th estate blocks...a bit creepy at first however quiet, safe and friendly. There is a bus stop 5mins walk and 15mins walk to the nearest beach. 30mins drive to Gdansk old town, closest to Sopot pier aprox 10mins. Overall, good price and spacious flat.
Book this hotel, you won't regret.
The best ever stay during our trip to 8 country.
Beautiful decorate, comfort, clean, spacious and we like and really enjoyed here.
Very helpful and friendly staff, answered all my questions.
Walking distance to old town with nice view from the room.
Highly RECOMMENDED.
Very good location near old town. You have your own privacy, you don't hear other neighbour's. A spacious apartment. The best hairdryer ever found in renter place. It was quite easy to find free parking place on the street (just don't leave under lamp post as mentioned above).
The best thing about this hotel is the location just few steps away from the heart of old town. Rooms are spacious and new. We liked the breakfast and wellness zone of this hotel – there is a pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Wifi worked well and staff was nice too.
When I booked this hotel I was attracted by the history of the place and by the fact that it was a 4 stars hotel. I still think it has a lot of potential, but some things must change.
The location is quite close to the old town, 15-20 minutes walk.
Hotel isn’t located in/near the old town, but you can easily get the city centre by bus. Location is very comfortable - you can’t find 3 supermarkets in the neighborhood, some small cafes… rooms are clean and good equipped. Breakfast is very rich!
The hotel is located in the Old Town on Kings Road so exceptional choices in terms of cafe, restaurants and bars. and very picturesque. Our room was spacious and clean and breakfast was delicious with an extensive menu and buffet as an option.
very nice location, 5min to the old town, 5min to railway station but quiet.
clean, more to the hotel experience than apartment rent.
Coffee machine, enough place to work, comfortable sofa to rest in the middle of the day.
The location is amazing and allows for easy access to old town. City parking is conveniently next to the hotel. The front desk staff were friendly and professional. It’s great value for the money.
The hotel is located in the old town close to bars and restaurants. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was spacious with a small kitchen area.
